Jiu Jitsu Belts and Graduation System
KIDS (4-15yrs) BELT GRADUATION SYSTEM
For kids (4-15yrs) Driven - Zenith BJJ provides degree graduation every three months. It is suggested for each belt, students achieve 4 white degrees (stripes) before graduating to the next belt. Students may be promoted faster, achieving more than one stripe or skipping a belt level should they have met qualifications.
Grading Requirements
At Driven Jiu Jitsu we believe each student should be graded according to their progression and participation by demonstrating both techniques and ability to perform during scrimmage sessions and tournaments. Students are also largely graded on attendance, participation in class, and demonstration of respect, good listening and good manners. Our belt system is based on the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system. Each student will have a dan marker on his or her belt to mark their progress as a student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In order for a student to graduate to the next belt they must be awarded four white stripes.
Our goal is to ensure that each student is at a very high level of what their belt level represents. We personally believe that belts and stripes have to be earned and not just handed out. We also stress that a belt is not the final goal, rather the ability to demonstrate and use their skill and knowledge properly is more impressive than any fancy belt or uniform.
All students must show that they have earned and attained all knowledge taught to them before they can receive their next stripe or belt level. Students will be graded and tested quarterly on assigned techniques including positions, submissions and knowledge of the point system. Our belt system is structured to meet the IBJJF and Ontario Jiu Jitsu Association guidelines, and ensures that each student is at least 16 years or older before they receive senior ranks (blue belt or higher).
As you can imagine it is a long, but very rewarding journey to earn your black belt and higher. Enjoy every step of the way.
